3d Printing

Since the moment I read about 3d printers, I knew I had to have one. Of course, the first ones were a little out of my price range but finally, I decided I was going to build one myself. I bought all the parts, had another person 3d print the pieces I needed to get started and I began assembling. Shortly thereafter, my wife and I decided to move to Southwest Iowa to be closer to family and I put the project on hold. However, during the weeks leading up to the move, I found a DaVinci 1.0 3d Printer on Craigslist for $350. The wife gave me approval and it was an early Christmas for me. And again, due to the move, it sat in the corner, untouched for over a year.

I’ve recently gotten it out of storage and set it up at my fathers store and started printing. The initial prints were OK but nothing to great. I read up on how to level the bed and spent almost 3 hours getting it 100%. Since then, the prints have been pretty good. Not production quality, but good enough for my needs for now. Below are some of the prints I’ve done. My best settings at the present are:

  • uncheck auto repair
  • .02 mm layer height
  • 15% infill or greater
  • everything else default
  • Here are some prints.

I have a number of projects in store including:

  • 250 Series FPV Quadcopter (Frame 100% 3d Printed)
  • Draw Bot
  • Finish my Delta 3d Printer
  • Flash the printer firmware with Repetier
  • Setup Octoprint on a Raspberry Pi (OctoPi)
  • Stay tuned!
